Selgado Acquitted Amid Missing Evidence Controversy
Tonight, doubts linger over the justice system after attorney Oscar Selgado walks free. His acquittal comes after spending more than a year behind bars, yet key evidence in the case, audio recordings, apparently never made it to court. Four different departments had copies, but none were presented during trial. Was this a case of smoke and mirrors? Arthur Saldivar, Selgado’s attorney, isn’t mincing words. He says what happened here undermines the very foundation of justice. So, how did this happen, and what’s next for Selgado? We’ll tell you.

“The DPP had a copy of those recordings, herself. The police department had a copy of those recordings also. So we don’t even know if the courts received anything, really, because the courts didn’t play the recordings to see what the contents are until the matter comes to trial. So, for all intents and purposes, the courts may not have received anything at all. This may have been a smoke and mirrors case and, again, I don’t want to cast any aspersions, but at the end of the day, you are talking about the DPP’s office, that’s one, the police department, that’s two, the registry, that’s three, the magistracy, that’s four. Four different departments and none of them have this audio file? I would have said it’s unprecedented until this matter of Budna came up, four separate cameras and no footage. But, I mean, that’s the only parallel I can draw, and in both cases we have seen that it is a blatant undermining of the justice system in rail roading a single individual. In this case, Oscar Selgado spent an entire year, plus, behind bars. Now, Mr. Selgado reserves all his rights. He has not indicated what he’s going to do yet, I believe he’s looking to see after his ailing mother who had a stroke.”
