Police Chief Promises Modernisation, Tougher Policing
Police Commissioner Dr. Richard Rosado used his annual Christmas message to focus on policing reforms, modernisation efforts, and continued community partnership, while extending gratitude to officers and the public as the Belize Police Department prepares for 2026.
Dr. Rosado described Christmas as a period of “reflection, unity, and renewed purpose,” calling on Belizeans to rise above differences and reaffirm values of service, compassion and generosity.
Reviewing significant developments in 2025, the Commissioner noted what he called a “defining year” for policing nationwide. He pointed to restructuring aimed at ISO certification, the launch of the Crime Fusion Center to support data-driven operations, and efforts to streamline intelligence by consolidating the joint intelligence coordinating center with Interpol operations.
Rosado also highlighted the establishment of an interdiction team and expanded training across the department. These efforts, he said, align with strategic pillars focused on “reforming, refocusing, and rebuilding,” and have “already produced tangible results.”
Looking to 2026, he pledged broader modernisation, more community engagement, and stronger use of technology to combat violent crime and improve public safety. “This progress is the result of collective effort,” Rosado said.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the public “for your trust and support,” and commended officers and civilian staff for their “unwavering commitment” despite constraints.
