Man Charged After Shooting at Caye Caulker Hotel

On Wednesday, officers formally arrested and charged 45-year-old Jun Ming Zhao for the offences of use of deadly means of harm and wounding.

According to ASP Stacy Smith, the charges stem from a shooting that occurred on Monday, December 15, at around 1:15 p.m. at the Enjoy Hotel on Pasero Street in Caye Caulker.

“What the investigators have gathered so far is that it is alleged that Zhao went to that property and produced his licensed firearm and fired a single shot to the leg of Chen,” ASP Smith said.

The injured man was taken to the hospital for treatment, where a doctor classified the injury as wounding. Police later apprehended Zhao.

ASP Smith added that investigators have established a personal connection between the two men. “What we know so far is that the injured male person is in a common-law relationship with the ex-wife of the defendant,” she said.
