Caledonia Considers Police Help as Roadside Dumping Persists

Meanwhile, in Caledonia, residents say they’ve had enough. Frustration is continuing to grow over a long‑standing garbage problem at the village entrance, where roadside dumping persists despite repeated clean‑up efforts and posted warning signs. Community members say the situation has become more than just an eyesore. They warn that the buildup of trash, made worse by division and neglect, poses a danger to both motorists and residents, while also leaving a poor first impression of the village. Earlier, we spoke with Caledonia Village Council Vice Chairperson Docia Chan, who stressed that keeping the village entrance clean remains a top priority. She also cautioned that if the dumping continues, the council may have no choice but to seek assistance from police to address the problem.

On the Phone: Docia Chan, Vice Chairperson, Caledonia Village

“We really had a dump site, which was, I would say in a mess. Now, since we won the village council, we decided to we want a change. We want our village to be kept clean all times because the garbage site is in the entrance of Caledonia. So we need to keep it clean and have a so that the visitors and also the villagers, we can appreciate something very good. Now, in this case, on Sunday we went and then clean up the area. We left it very clean. On Monday we went again, and along the roadside there were several bags of garbage. Even though the little the path was clean, people are still throwing garbage by the roadside. I don’t know if this is politics. If this is something that the people are trying to let us down, I don’t know what is the intention. We went and we put some signs. People are still not respecting what we are doing. So I am calling the attention of all villagers to be conscious and to put the garbage in this proper place. If this is not done, then I think that the council will have to take serious actions against these people.”

“What kind of serious actions?”

“We have to consult with the officials, police officials, and investigate what actions we can take so that we can stop the people from doing this mess again.”
