Louis Wade Questions BTL’s Role in Smart Sale

Plus TV’s Louis Wade isn’t mincing words. He says he has no issue with Smart’s owners wanting to sell, but his concern is with who’s buying. Wade points to BTL, citing past experiences and warning that the company hasn’t proven itself as a strong steward of an open market. For him, it’s about fair competition and transparency.

Louis Wade, Owner, Plus Tv

“My first point that I want to give is that I have no problem that the sellers want to sell. People own their private business, and they are free as they develop and want to change what they are interested in. They are free to do that. I have a problem with the buyer. The buyer in the past has been a monopoly, has demonstrated itself as being a poor steward of the open market place of ideas throughout its history, whether it was government owned or there was the golden share, or it moved into private ownership, and then moved into where it is a government owned private entity and the government is the people, so it still is still in my opinion a public thing.”

Greater Belize Media has delivered in-depth coverage of the BTL telecom negotiations, highlighting perspectives from the business community, independent senators, and trade unions.
