Activist Challenges JLSC Over Dismissal

Social activist Jerry Enriquez says he wants a fair and meaningful investigation into claims of alleged misconduct filed with the Judicial and Legal Service Commission against Justice Tawanda Hondora. Back in late 2025, the JLSC dismissed the complaint. Well, Enriquez asserts that the dismissal was unjustified in the face of detailed and compelling evidence. So, he is now taking the JLSC to court. Enriquez requested High Court leave to sue the JLSC, and the court granted him that leave. Here is what he told us today.

Jerry Enriquez, Social Activist

“Nobody, no politician, no area representative, neither the governor General, no one is above the law. The constitution is the supreme law of Belize. This whole thing with their JLSC started when we filled a complaint for judicial misconduct during our very important, critical constitutional case for fair representation in our electoral system as is mandated by the constitution. That case is not going well and we noted their was judicial misconduct. We presented the evidence, the recordings and to the JLSC and we expected they would respect our complaint and follow due process to investigate what our complaints were and arrive at a decision. What happened is that we found their was a delay in dealing with our complaint and when we threatened to take it court for judicial review it was then we got a response saying our complaint did not merit further investigation. It did not reach the threshold for further action. We felt it was unfair and was not addressed meaningful, neither did we have any confidence they used any of our sworn affidavit  and the evidence we submitted and it was dealt with behind closed doors and not transparent.”
