Former Home Affairs Minister Pushes for Dedicated Gun Court
The decision to pull the proposed Thirteenth Amendment has drawn mixed reactions, and while several elements may still be revisited, one feature in particular is priority for former Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa. He says he hopes government will keep alive the idea of establishing a dedicated gun and gang court, noting that hundreds of firearms cases remain stalled in the system.

“Perhaps the highlight of the Thirteenth Amendment that I find regrettable that we’re not proceeding with is a specified gun and gang court. That’s something I would really want to encourage the government and cabinet to reconsider because there are so many gun charges that are languishing in our magistrate court, over a hundred and sixty of them and as justice delayed is justice denied. And so we have a lot of individuals who have been charged under the Firearms Act, but those cases have not yielded any results. So having a dedicated court for gangs and gun control, I think is very important. So hopefully that’s something we can reconsider.”
