‘He Was Hard Working, Friendly and Kind’

Family members and friends of Darwin Valerio have flooded social media with messages of grief after the 35-year-old security guard was shot and killed while on duty in Lord Banks Village, Belize District.

Valerio was described as a “hard working person,friendly person n a kindly person.”

“Darwin you broke me fam,and you would do anything for me when I ask… The bond we share, all the calls on the phone… cuz whyyy you,” a family member wrote online.

The Wabagari Dance Grou added, “His life was cut short, May his Soul Rest in peace, you did’nt deserve this.”

He was found motionless on the ground at the Belize Water Service warehouse with two apparent gunshot injuries.

Initial police investigations reveal that Valerio had gone to conduct a routine compound check around 8:20 p.m. and did not return.

One family member also made a public appeal for help online. She said her sister had been on the phone with Valerio and “heard him yelling for help suddenly.” 

“Anybody have a contact for ranger security company urgent help needed…Don’t have company location or number please help anyone,” she added.
