Police Officer Accused of Stealing Cocaine from OW Police Station
A police officer is under investigation after allegedly stealing a quantity of cocaine from the Orange Walk Police Station, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Sources tell News Five that the cocaine was confiscated from an individual during a police operation. However, the arresting officer reportedly failed to submit the drugs to the station’s exhibit keepers, as required under police procedures, and instead stored the cocaine in his personal locker at the station.
On Friday, another officer who was on duty allegedly accessed that locker and stole the cocaine, which was reportedly contained in three separate envelopes.
Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado confirmed to News 5 that the department is investigating the matter. He said, “I can confirm that the Belize Police Department is investigating the reported disappearance of just over one gram of controlled drugs from the Orange Walk Police Station. One officer is currently being questioned.”
He stressed that any officer found to have breached regulations or compromised evidence would face disciplinary action, including criminal prosecution where applicable.
“There will be no shielding of wrongdoing,” the Commissioner added, while noting that the alleged actions of one officer do not reflect the values of the department as a whole.
We are told the officer in question has been told to fill out a transfer request form.
