Aaron Wilson Wins Settlement After Unlawful Detention

Businessman Aaron Wilson says the Government of Belize has agreed to settle his case before it reached trial in the High Court. Wilson couldn’t reveal the compensation, but told us the fight was never about money. His claim stemmed from a March 8, 2024, incident at the Ladyville Police Station, where PC Shaneeka Hoare accused him of being “boisterous.” Wilson maintains he was simply asking about his employee’s status when he was detained for more than twenty-two hours and later charged, despite there being no evidence and no complaint ever filed in court. He never had to answer to the charge. Wilson’s attorney argued the officer acted unlawfully, causing him embarrassment, financial loss, and even a civil lawsuit linked to obligations he couldn’t meet while detained. Outside the courtroom, Wilson said he’s relieved the ordeal is finally over. After nearly two years of back-and-forth, he says he can now focus on rebuilding his business and moving on with his life.
