Will Aaron Guzman’s Contract Be Renewed?

Questions are mounting around government advisor Aaron Guzman. His seventy‑thousand‑dollar contract, already flagged last year as likely ending in February, was questioned for its necessity, and now Guzman is under fresh scrutiny after admitting his sons cut down about fifteen trees without a permit. Today, Home Affairs Minister Oscar Mira weighed in on the growing controversy.

“The contract for Mr. Guzman? At this point in time, the contract was not done by me, that is done by the office of the Prime Minister. I have not advised them to renew that contract. So it will be left up to the office of Prime Minister to renew or not to renew.”

“So even if you don’t advise, they can. So go forward with it.”

Oscar Mira

“I don’t sign a contract, so of course, it’s their prerogative. If they can ask for my advice, I can give them my advice.”

“And so, we know the forestry department recently stopped an illegal logging operation that was happening at his farm, including confiscating a sawmill. Can you speak on that or can you comment on that?”

Oscar Mira

“No, I cannot comment on that. I don’t know the details and I think it wouldn’t be right for me to comment on something that I don’t know. It had nothing to do with the police department that was forestry operation. And I think the best person was the forest department.”

Reporter

“And were you aware of it though?”

Oscar Mira

“I was aware it through report that I saw yes, it was on the news as well as and but it wasn’t a police led operation.”

Reporter

“And did you ever confront him about it by chance?”

Oscar Mira

“No, I haven’t confronted him.”
