Caribbean Climate Centre Wins UK–Belize Award

The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) has picked up two major honours at the UK–Belize Climate & Nature Legacy Awards 2026, winning in Policy & Governance Impact and Innovation in Climate Action & Diplomacy.

The awards, held under the theme “Celebrating Legacy, Shaping Tomorrow”, recognise organisations making real-world impacts on climate action, protecting the environment, and building strong international partnerships.

While awards like these may sound distant, the Centre’s work affects life across the Caribbean. Stronger coastlines mean fewer homes lost to storms, and closer regional cooperation ensures communities aren’t alone when disasters strike.

Executive Director Dr Colin Young said the recognition shows the importance of partnerships. He thanked the UK for funding programmes that help small island nations adapt, noting that the award comes at a time when global politics are slowing climate progress.

“As we look ahead, we remain committed to working alongside Caribbean policymakers and stakeholders to deliver the adaptive solutions our region urgently needs in the face of accelerating climate change,” Dr Young said.
