Murder Suspect Accused of Earlier Targeting a Woman

Police say the man detained for Saturday’s fatal machete attack in San Juan Village, Stann Creek, had earlier targeted a woman in an attempted robbery.

Elias Bejerano was found with multiple chop wounds on a village street in the Stann Creek District. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero said Bejerano was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Romero added that Bejarano was believed to be heading home from a bar when he was attacked.

Police later detained one suspect. Romero confirmed that the suspect had previously attempted to rob a woman in the same area. “The information we got is that earlier the person attempted to rob a female in the area earlier likewise,” Romero said.

 The suspect is believed to have recently moved to the village.
