Edwin ‘Drive’ Flowers Dies After Boat Mishap Off Caye Caulker
Edwin “Drive” Flowers, a reputed street figure, had survived gunfire before, but on Sunday evening off Caye Caulker, trouble came in a different form. Shortly after six o’clock, police received a report of someone in distress. When they arrived, they saw a man being rushed toward the clinic for help. Inside, officers found forty‑something‑year‑old Flowers, well known to Belize City police, struggling for his life. Moments later, doctors pronounced him dead. Investigators say Flowers had been on a vessel when it developed mechanical problems. Witnesses later saw him in distress, prompting a frantic effort to get him to the Split and then the health center. An autopsy is pending, but for now, what began as a routine trip at sea has ended with the sudden death of a man who, for years, had been at the center of Belize City’s gritty gang landscape.
