Resign or Reapply? Terminal Workers Seek Answers

Will bus terminal employees lose their jobs under the new National Bus Company?

That question is now echoing across the public service. Reports that some workers were urged to resign have renewed concern within the Public Service Union. PSU President Dean Flowers says the issue has unsettled members who fear forced exits.

The Ministry of Transport denies any directive to resign. Minister Dr. Louis Zabaneh says the anxiety stems from early miscommunication.

“They want to ensure, of course, that the rights of these employees are protected, and certainly we agree.”

Zabaneh confirmed that terminal staff will have a 6-month transition period. During that time, they must decide whether to join the National Bus Company or remain in government service.

“They will have to apply because it’s a new company, and they will have to understand clearly their terms of reference.”
