Cotton Tree Man Detained by Same Officer Who Allegedly Shot Him
On Tuesday night, you heard from a Cotton Tree resident who claimed a police officer shot him in the arm while his back was turned. Akeem Jones told News Five the officer had been chasing one of his relatives, and when that chase failed, the officer allegedly turned his weapon on him. Well, there’s a new twist tonight. Jones’ sister, Norma Lemott, says the same officer who allegedly shot him detained him this morning. According to the family, Jones was actually on his way to file an official complaint with the Professional Standards Branch when he was picked up.

“We also the hear that the police say that he nuh happy Akeem gone on the media and he wanted to press charges on him for assaulting a police officer. But you cant assault a police officer and nuh get a charge sheet before they discharge you right, because at no minute a police was guarding my brother before he got shot and at no minute did they take a charge sheet for him after my little brother went on the media. And you know what you did. So I think he the try cover what he did and want to justify himself. So that is what he is doing right now. And then our family is getting a lawyer, because we nuh the leave this like that. I mean, how will you shoot someone and then turn around and try play victim and say how they wanted to take your gun because you don’t gone on media. What he did is wrong. Police officers are to serve and protect. You can’t the chance innocent people out here because you have the power to do it.”
The family says they’re now seeking legal action, insisting the officer is trying to cover his tracks after the shooting.
