KHMH Completes Interviews for New CEO
Belize’s largest public hospital is one step closer to appointing a new Chief Executive Officer, after operating for months without permanent leadership. The position at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital has remained vacant since mid-October of last year when the contract of former CEO Chandra Nisbet-Cansino ended. Since then, the country’s only tertiary-level referral hospital has been managed under an interim administrative structure while the Board of Directors searched for a replacement. In February the hospital’s board conducted a series of interviews with a short list of candidates vying for the job. Those interviews wrapped up last week. Among the candidates is Ann-Marie Thompson, who served as Acting Labour Commissioner during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Also interviewed was Sharine Reyes, the current Financial Director at the hospital; Timothy Seguro, an assistant administrator who previously served as Acting CEO at the institution, Dr. Gilroy Middleton, a former Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Immigration, and Gilda Diaz Hall. Hospital officials say the board is now reviewing the candidates before making a final recommendation, with a decision expected in the coming weeks for who will take the helm of Belize’s most important public healthcare institution.
