Trump Says ‘Cuba is going to fall pretty soon’

United States President Donald Trump says the government of Cuba could collapse soon. In a recent interview with CNN on Friday, he claimed that the island’s leaders are eager to negotiate with Washington and that the long-standing communist government may be nearing its end.

“Cuba is going to fall pretty soon,” Trump said. “They want to make a deal so badly.”

The president also suggested that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio could be tasked with handling potential talks with Havana.

“They want to make a deal, and so I’m going to put Marco over there, and we’ll see how that works out,” Trump said.

Trump raised the issue of Cuba for the second time in two days. A day earlier, he told a White House audience it may only be “a question of time” before Americans are able to visit the island again.

However, Trump said his administration remains focused on the ongoing conflict involving Iran before shifting attention elsewhere. “We want to finish this one [Iran] first,” Trump said.

Trump’s remarks come as Cuba faces mounting economic pressure and weeks of instability. These past days have brought a massive blackout that plunged nearly two-thirds of the island, including the capital Havana, into darkness. Residents say the outage is the latest setback in a worsening energy crisis.
