Lottery Contribution Backs National Preparedness
Earlier today, we spoke with the Belize Red Cross following a major announcement from the Belize Government Lotteries Limited. The organization has just received fifty-five thousand dollars, half of the unclaimed winnings from the Million Dalla Jackpot drawn on December twentieth. According to the release, the contribution will directly support the Red Cross’ ongoing work in disaster preparedness and response, health services, and community resilience initiatives across the country. We spoke with Director General at the Belize Red Cross, Lily Bowman.

“It feels very gratifying when our work is recognized and appreciated. And so that support will go a long way in allowing the Belize Red Cross to continue its humanitarian work in the communities. We work very closely with communities, as most people would know. We’ve worked in over 100 communities in the country of Belize, and we want to continue this work. Like all nonprofit organizations, we face challenges financially, and the minute you have to mobilize a staff or a volunteer, there’re expenses. So this will definitely help us to continue our programs in the communities, to mobilize our staff and our volunteers to be able to deliver services to the most vulnerable people in Belize and those communities that we serve.”
