Belize is stepping up its role in Central America after a series of high-level talks in San Salvador on Friday, March 6.

Dr Osmond Martinez, Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Transformation, led the delegation alongside Ambassador Lou-Anne Burns Martinez and Leroy Martinez, Acting Director of the Climate Finance Unit.

The meetings linked economic growth, climate action, and regional cooperation. Minister Martinez met El Salvador’s Vice President, Dr Félix Ulloa, to discuss agriculture, trade, and education exchanges.

Belize also used the trip to prepare for its upcoming Pro Tempore Presidency of SICA, meeting Ingrid Figueroa to push regional connectivity, tourism, and trade.

Talks with COSEFIN, South Korea, and ONU Mujeres explored cargo management, infrastructure upgrades, and women’s economic empowerment.

“The engagements provided an opportunity to strengthen Belize’s diplomatic and development partnerships while exploring areas of mutual cooperation and shared priorities,” the government statement read.
