Police Say Targeted Shooting Claimed the Life of Clinton Pou

What was first believed to be a robbery attempt is now being investigated as a targeted attack that claimed the life of Clinton Pou, according to a senior officer on the ground.

Pou was near his mother’s food trailer at the fish market in Belize City when gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire. Both Pou and his sister, 27‑year‑old food vendor Kiandra Pou, were struck. A police source told News Five that Clinton Pou later died from his injuries, while his sister remains hospitalised in a stable condition.

Police officers who were already in the area responded immediately and pursued the suspects. During the chase, officers fired at one of the men on the motorcycle, injuring him.The suspect was later detained and transported to the hospital for treatment.

An eyewitness told News Five about the chaos during the incident: “It’s so confusing that the police dih shoot and the civilian dih shoot at the same time. Dah Like a shoot out. Because it was like at least 20 shots that went off…All I did was run in a yard because I see my friend mih the run.”

Investigators believe the firearm used in the attack may have been thrown into the nearby water, and divers are expected to search the area for the weapon.

This was not the first attempt on Pou’s life. In 2019, he survived a shooting at his North Front Street residence when two men entered and opened fire, injuring him.
