Elderly Canadian Found Dead on Drifting Catamaran
The probe into the mysterious death of an elderly Canadian man remains active tonight after his body was recovered from a drifting catamaran more than sixty miles offshore on Wednesday. The vessel, last seen leaving Livingston a week ago, drew attention when the cruise ship MSC Divina reported a distress call and rescued a woman who said her husband had suffered cardiac arrest. But when Belize’s Rescue Team boarded the abandoned catamaran Wednesday morning, they found the man’s body and signs of blood, raising new questions about what happened during the couple’s voyage. Tonight, police shared more details on the investigation.

“On eleventh of March, 2026, police were advised by the Belize rescue team that they were escorting a Catamaran, namely Melinda, that was found drifting some sixty miles off the course of Belize. The person from the Belize rescue team also advised police that onboard that vessel was the body of a male person. The investigators as well as the scenes of crime technician awaited the arrival of the vessel, and upon boarding it, they confirmed that in fact, a deceased person who was later identified to be Thomas David Horman, a seventy-two-year-old British Columbian of British Columbia, Canada, was discovered. The scene was processed by scenes of crime technician, and the burden now awaits a post-mortem examination. What we know so far is that the vessel is believed to have departed Honduras around the ninth of March, and sometime during that day, a distress signal was sent to the Honduran authorities. This information was communicated and efforts were made by both the Honduran authorities. As well as Canadian authorities to locate the vessel with a view to bringing it to shore. Communication was made by the Honduran authorities to the Belize rescue team, and they were advised as to the specific location and they were able to go out and make that rescue and bring the catamaran around to doc.”

“In the process of your investigation, have you been able to locate or identify the woman who was on board with him?”
ASP Stacy Smith
“Yes, we have received indication as to the female that was on board. What I can say is that she is reported to have been rescued by a cruise ship that was in the area, and her identity has been known, and she would’ve communicated with a relative of the deceased, Mr. Harmon, about the incident.”

“Do the police believe that foul play was involved based on the evidence that was found on the scene?”
ASP Stacy Smith
“It is an ongoing investigation. We are awaiting the results of the post-mortem to make a determination in that regard. “
Investigators are working to uncover what unfolded on the drifting catamaran after finding the Canadian’s body and signs of blood miles out at sea.
