Belize Delegation Attends UK Governance Seminar
A team from Belize’s National Assembly has returned from London after a weeklong seminar aimed at strengthening parliaments across the Commonwealth.
Minister of State for Foreign Trade Marconi Leal Jr, UDP Senator Sheena Pitts, and Parliamentary Officer Manuel Grant attended the 74th Westminster Seminar on Effective Parliaments, hosted by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
The event brought together lawmakers from across the Commonwealth to discuss issues that affect everyday governance, from holding leaders accountable to setting clear standards of conduct.
For Belize’s delegation, the sessions focused on practical issues that directly affect citizens, including how Parliament can better question government decisions and manage public funds.
Beyond the seminar rooms, the group visited communities in Liverpool, meeting with local officials and organisations to see how governance works at the community level. Discussions also explored newer challenges, such as the use of artificial intelligence in parliamentary work.
According to a government press release, the trip did not cost Belizean taxpayers, as all travel expenses were covered by the UK branch of the association.
