The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) in Belize is celebrating 70 years of service to women and communities across the country.

Since opening its doors, the YWCA has been a driving force in social development, helping generations of Belizeans build brighter futures. To mark the milestone, the organisation hosted an open day at its Belize City headquarters, inviting the public to learn more about its programmes and impact.

YWCA Vice President Bernadette Ellis said the anniversary is a reminder of the organisation’s long-standing commitment to community service. “Anyone can be a member of Y,” Ellis explained. “From high school to sixth form, this is the place to come and give back to your community.”

The celebrations began with a church service at Wesley on Sunday and continued with today’s open house, where visitors could check their blood pressure and meet health officials.

“Going way back, the bricks that started this building were laid by women, and so we are very proud of where we are and the impact,” Ellis said.
