Belizean Lawmakers Join Global Parliamentary Seminar
A Belizean delegation has wrapped up a week of parliamentary training in London aimed at strengthening how Parliament works back home. Minister of State Marconi Leal Jr., Senator Sheena Pitts, and Parliamentary Officer Manuel Grant joined lawmakers from across the Commonwealth at the 74th Westminster Seminar. They spent the week digging into core issues like transparency, oversight, parliamentary privilege, and codes of conduct. Senator Pitts also represented Belize at the Commonwealth Day Flag Raising Ceremony at Westminster Abbey, delivering a reading from The House of the Commonwealth. The team observed Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons and visited the Liverpool Riverside constituency, where they met with local officials and community leaders to see governance in action. The seminar also examined modern challenges, leadership, communication, gender‑sensitive practices, parliamentarian safety, and the use of AI. Grant contributed by sharing Belize’s progress on digitizing parliamentary work.
