Trump Says Talks with Iran are “Productive”, Iran Says There Are No Talks
Just under 48 hours after threatening to destroy Iran’s power plants, US President Donald Trump shifted tone on Monday, announcing that military strikes have been postponed and that the two countries are close to resolving their conflict.
In a post to Truth Social, Trump said the US and Iran had held “very good and productive conversations” over the past two days and that he had instructed the Department of War to hold off on any strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days, pending the outcome of ongoing discussions.
Iran flatly denied it.
Iran’s Student News Network (SNN), quoted a foreign ministry source denying any negotiations. The outlet added that the Strait of Hormuz remained “closed to aggressors.” Other state-affiliated agencies, Fars and Tasnim, echoed the same line: no contact with Trump, no talks, and claims that the U.S. had “backed down”.
Later, Iran’s foreign ministry issued an official statement, quoted by CBS News, flatly rejecting Trump’s claims:
“We deny what U.S. President Donald Trump said regarding negotiations taking place between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Islamic Republic of Iran adheres to its position rejecting any type of negotiations before achieving Iran’s goals from the war.”
