2023 Christmas Eve Killing Case Moves Forward
The High Court has ruled that Shaquile Perera must answer to murder and attempted‑murder charges, after a judge today rejected a no‑case submission from the defense. The case stems from a Christmas Eve 2023 shooting that left Darnell Puerto dead and Jehvon Ramclam wounded. Justice Nigel Pilgrim said the prosecution’s key eyewitness, Ramclam, gave evidence that, if believed, could support a conviction. While the defense highlighted inconsistencies in his account, the judge found those issues weren’t strong enough to throw out the case at this stage. Medical and ballistic reports, he noted, didn’t contradict the witness’s story in a way that would make the identification unreliable. The court also pointed to questions surrounding the defendant’s alibi, after the named witness never came forward to speak with investigators. With the no‑case submission overruled, Perera will now be called to answer the charges as the trial continues.
