The Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) held its first-ever “Mr BNTU” competition on Saturday, and 28-year-old Maclovio Ack of Punta Gorda claimed the crown.

The event was part of the union’s national convention in Belize City and the four-day celebration of teachers. Nine male educators from across the country competed in talent, creativity, professionalism, and community involvement.

Area Representative for Toledo East, Dr Osmond Martinez, praised the win: “In a very historical Mr BNTU competition showcasing talent, composure, knowledge, and creativity, Mr Ack topped every single segment to be crowned champion.”

The Punta Gorda Town Council also congratulated Ack, saying, “We proudly celebrate your outstanding achievement. Your hard work, dedication, and talent truly set you apart.”

Ack’s victory adds a light-hearted, inspiring twist to the union’s convention and lays the foundation for what may become a fun new tradition.

Other contestants were also celebrated, despite not taking the title this year. The BNTU Orange Walk branch uplifted their contestant, Daniel Flores, saying, “You may not have taken the title, but to us, you are truly a winner… You followed the guidelines with integrity, embodying what it means to be a great teacher role model in Belize.”
