Women in Uniform Close Women’s Month with Parade in Belmopan
Women serving in Belize’s security forces brought Women’s Month to a powerful close today with a parade through the capital city.
The event began at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium and moved through the streets of Belmopan before culminating at the Bliss Parade. Along the route, spectators applauded as women from the Belize Police Department, the Belize Defence Force, and the Belize Coast Guard marched side by side.
The closing parade marked a full-circle moment for Women’s Month activities. Earlier this month, history was made in Belize City with the inaugural Women’s Law Enforcement March. Today’s event symbolized both celebration and continuity, organizers said.
Minister of Border Security and National Defense Florencio Marin Jr. addressed participants and onlookers, emphasizing that the month was not only about celebration, but reflection.
“As we come to the close of this year’s Women’s Month, in addition to celebration it is a good moment for reflection,” Marin said. “Throughout this month we have highlighted the achievements of women across Belize in our communities, in our workplaces and in our homes. But today, I want to focus on a space where the contributions of women are sometimes less visible and that is in national security.”
He said the morning’s parade showcased Belizean women who have pledged years of dedicated service to the country.
“Women in the Belize Police Department, the Belize Defence Force and the Belize Coast Guard are leading operations and making critical decisions every day that help keep our country safe,” Marin added. “Whether it is long hours protecting our maritime or land borders or responding in the aftermath of a hurricane, they are here and they are doing it well.”
