Women in uniform marched through Belmopan this morning as Belize’s security forces came together to close out Women’s Month, showcasing strength, discipline, and pride from the Police Department, the BDF, and the Coast Guard. As these women continue to serve on the frontlines, National Defense Minister Florencio Marin says it’s time to move beyond praise and ensure they get equal chances to rise and lead.

“We must continue to ensure that women in national security are given equal opportunities to train, to advance, and to lead. And just as importantly, we must continue to create an environment where they feel supported, respected, and valued. Because inclusion cannot be seasonal. It has to be something we practice consistently. Really, we’re recognizing the value of their work.  I now see them participating in patrols and operations in our maritime spaces.  And they’re holding their own. And they’re performing equally and many times better than their male counterparts. So we don’t just want to be giving a token like, oh, thank you for being in. No, they are earning their salary.”

“Let me take an opportunity to commend the outstanding execution of both the opening march and the closing march. These displays were not only disciplined and professional, but also deeply symbolic. They reflect strength, cohesion, and unwavering commitment that women bring to national service.”
