Police Officer Behind Bars on Incest Allegation  

A police officer is behind bars tonight, charged with incest. The forty‑six‑year‑old constable was taken to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this morning, where Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison read him a single indictable charge. Because of the nature of the offense, no plea was taken and bail was denied. The officer was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May twenty‑eighth, while his attorney prepares a High Court bail application. Police say the charge stems from a report made on March twenty‑ninth, when a fourteen‑year‑old girl accused her uncle, who is also a police officer, of sexually assaulting her at a northside residence two days earlier. Investigators detained the officer, offered him a recorded interview, which he declined, and later charged him with incest at the conclusion of the investigation.
