US Destroys Iran’s Largest Bridge, Killing Eight

US President Donald Trump on Thursday claimed responsibility for the destruction of Iran’s largest bridge, sharing footage of the $400 million B1 suspension span collapsing in a cloud of black smoke.

Iranian state media reported eight people killed and 95 wounded after US strikes hit the bridge twice at its centre, splitting the 136‑metre‑high structure that connects Tehran to the nearby city of Karaj. Later images showed a gaping void where the middle section once stood.

“The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again — much more to follow,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. “It is time for Iran to make a deal before it is too late.”

Hours later, he escalated his warnings further, posting: “Our military, the greatest and most powerful anywhere in the world, hasn’t even started destroying what’s left in Iran. Bridges next, then electric power plants.”

The conflict began on 28 February when US and Israeli forces launched coordinated attacks on Iranian targets. Among those reported killed early in the campaign was Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. Iranian officials vowed retaliation and later rejected a US peace plan to end the war.

Civilian and military casualties have grown significantly in the five weeks since. According to estimates from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, at least 1,900 people have been killed and around 20,000 injured since the conflict began, following more than 15,000 bombing raids.
