Belize–Taiwan Partnership Expands Beyond Diplomacy

Belize and Taiwan are signaling an even stronger partnership, with disaster preparedness and public service reform high on the agenda. Today in Belmopan, Minister of the Public Service and Disaster Risk Management, Henry Usher sat down with the newly appointed Taiwanese Ambassador, Amino C.Y. Chi, in talks focused on cooperation that goes beyond diplomacy and into real, on‑the‑ground impact. The meeting highlighted plans to modernize Belize’s public service through technical training, knowledge sharing, and capacity building, while also exploring ways Taiwan can support Belize’s disaster response efforts. Among the ideas discussed, the possible use of drone technology to boost NEMO’s ability to assess damage, monitor emergencies, and respond faster when disaster strikes. The discussions underscored the long‑standing friendship between Belize and Taiwan, a relationship both sides say remains rooted in mutual respect and a shared vision for national resilience and sustainable development.
