“You have been relieved of duty. Rest in peace.” With those words, the Belize Coast Guard announced the passing of Petty Officer Third Class Gianne Seline Cayetano.

In an official online statement, the force recognised her years of service, stating Cayetano served as Personal Assistant to the Commandant after transferring to the Belize Coast Guard in 2013. “Her untimely passing has deeply affected the entire Coast Guard family,” it added.

The Coast Guard said her “dedication, professionalism, and presence left a lasting impact” on those who worked alongside her.

Her sudden passing was first shared publicly on Monday by her twin sister, Janine Cayetano, who asked for “love, patience, and strength, not only for our family but for everyone whose life was touched by Gianne.”

Cayetano is being remembered not only within the Coast Guard but also across the football community, where she made her mark as an athlete and active supporter.

One relative expressed the family’s grief, saying, “Mein, my sister, my friend and most foremost aunt to my daughters. We are surely in shock and grief over this reality.”

Colleagues also recalled her role during the 2026 Women’s Month activities, describing her as “very instrumental”. Cayetano was among the most active and dedicated supporters of her Coast Guard team during the 2026 Wonder Woman Competition.

As tributes continue to pour in, Cayetano is being remembered as someone who was always “happy, laughing, smiling, running jokes, and playing games.”
