Violent San Estevan Road Crash Claims Motorist’s Life

A violent crash on the San Estevan Road has claimed a life and left a community shaken. A pickup truck and a motorcycle collided Sunday evening, turning the roadway into a scene of twisted metal and desperate efforts to help. Bystanders rushed in, but it was already too late for Zuriel Cruz. Tonight, investigators are working to determine what caused the deadly impact and who may be at fault. Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacey Smith has the latest on what authorities know so far.

“ The investigation commenced on Sunday, twelfth April, 2026 at approximately 4:10 p.m. when Orange Walk police were advised of an RTA on the San Estevan Road. The officers responded and upon their arrival they observe an injured and unresponsive male person who was later learned to be Zuriel Cruz, twenty-one-years of age. Also observed on the scene of the accident was a damaged motorcycle and a pickup truck, which also showed signs of damage. Cruz was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead sometime around 5:37 p.m. What the ongoing investigation has suggested is that Cruz was on onboard a motorcycle on the San Andres Road heading towards Orange Walk Town, and a pickup truck was traveling in the opposite direction. The suggestion is that the pickup truck made a left turn onto a dirt road, which caused a collision between the cycle and the pickup truck.”
