Caye Caulker Village Council Seeks Clarity on Controversial Police Station

Uncertainty is growing on the island after construction of a new Caye Caulker police station on Parcel 815 suddenly halted, prompting village leaders to demand answers from central government. The project, announced earlier this year and backed by a one-point-five-million-dollar contract for a modern police facility, has gone quiet, fueling rumors that the beachfront property may have been sold, claims officials have not substantiated but also have not directly addressed. Frustrated by weeks of silence after writing to multiple ministries and the area representative, the Caye Caulker Village Council has gone public to inform residents, stressing that it has seen no evidence of a sale but has received no response explaining why work stopped or what comes next.

“We were here when they started to do the construction of the police station, but the construction has halted and so we reached out to various ministries, including our area representative, to get information as to why construction has halted. There’s been a lot of rumors that the property was sold, but we don’t know. We do not have any concrete evidence or proof of that, so we just want answers. We don’t know why they are ignoring us, we don’t know why they are not at least telling the village council that it’s just rumors. And we’re not even getting any kind of communication from them. So that is why we decided to inform the public of what’s going on. We started with a letter that we sent to the various ministries, asking for a meeting, asking for some kind of communication with us. We have not heard back.”
