John Doe Identified as Emin Lino After Fatal Highway Crash
A man killed in a deadly traffic crash on the Philip Goldson Highway is no longer a John Doe tonight. Police have now identified him as thirty year old Emin Leonardo Lino, a Belize City resident whose common law wife came forward a day after the fatal accident. Lino died on impact Friday night near Mile 14 and a Half. That identification comes as the man accused of causing the crash faces serious consequences. Forty one year old Nelson W. Garcia Vega, a Salvadoran national and construction worker from Burrell Boom Village, appeared this evening before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, charged with manslaughter by negligence and multiple traffic offenses, including driving with an alcohol level above the legal limit. Vega appeared without an attorney and did not enter a plea. With no objection from the prosecution, the court granted him bail set at six thousand dollars, plus two sureties, which he met late this afternoon. He’s expected back in court on June fifteenth, when prosecutors are set to disclose their case as the investigation into this deadly crash continues.
