MOE Issues Warning: Strangers Approaching Students

The Ministry of Education is warning the public after reports that individuals have been approaching students in western Belize near school compounds and asking “sensitive questions under the guise of surveys.”

The Ministry is reminding the public that no one is allowed to visit schools without official approval.

“All school visits must be formally authorised by the Chief Education Officer,” the Ministry said, adding that schools have been instructed to report any unauthorised activity immediately.

“The Ministry will be increasing vigilance across school premises through its school warden network and in coordination with law enforcement,” it added.

Parents are being urged to stay alert and report anything suspicious to school authorities or the police.

The warning comes after concerns were expressed in Benque Viejo following social media reports of individuals in a white van, said to be posing as missionaries, allegedly approaching and harassing children.
