Opposition Slams Government on Crime, Commissioner Fires Back
With violent crime dominating the headlines, the political pressure on the Briceño administration is intensifying. At a UDP press conference this week, Opposition Senator Patrick Faber went on the offensive, pointing to recent killings, disappearances, and kidnappings as evidence that the government has lost control of public safety. Faber argued that incidents of this scale would have once triggered immediate national action. We put those concerns directly to the Commissioner of Police today and asked whether the force is losing ground in the fight against crime. Here is his response.

“Each person or each organization are entitled to their comment. In fact, the opposition had 13 years. I would ask them to offer some tangible solution rather than criticize. But as a department, we are doing all that we can. We’re using all legal measures, all legal tools, we’re utilizing technology, we’re utilizing community led policing, intelligence led policing, in an effort to ensure that we continue to maintain crimes at a manageable level.”
