Police Seek Identity After Another Body is Found Near Port

Following two recent teen killings near the Port of Belize, police are now investigating the discovery of another body in the same area, though under different circumstances. The decomposed body of an unidentified man was found along the shoreline earlier today, but unlike those earlier cases, police say there are no visible signs of injury and at this stage, foul play is not suspected. Investigators are now focusing on identifying the victim, with hopes that clothing found on the body could provide crucial clues. ASP Stacy Smith explains.

“Police have commenced a death investigation after decomposed body of a male person was found along the shoreline behind the Port of Belize Limited in Belize City. The investigation comments at around 12:44 PM today when officers were alerted of this discovery by a  fisherman who was in the area. We have not been able to ascertain the identity of the individual. However, we are hoping that the clothing that is, that the that is on the body would aid in this process. I was advised that no visible injury was observed. There is nothing to suggest that it’s foul play at this time. However, the autopsy will provide further clarity as to that. Whilst it is behind the Port of Belize Limited, that particular area, one is in the shoreline and the other was on land to my knowledge, certainly any life loss is of interest to the police department and that is why we have been conducting numerous operations and have been boosting those areas of concern.”

The body was dressed in a black T-shirt, khaki pants and black-and-white Nike tennis shoes. This is the third body found near the dykes behind the Port of Belize area this month.
