“These Guys Carry Minimal Cash”: Zeta Boss Questions Deadly Robbery
Zeta employer Eliezer Escalante says he is still trying to process the fatal robbery that claimed the life of one of his delivery drivers and injured another. According to police reports, the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Monday along the Chan Pine Ridge Road in the Orange Walk District.
Roberto Villafranco and his coworker, Felipe Vasquez, were ambushed while on duty. Villafranco was shot in the head and died at the scene. Vasquez is still receiving treatment for the gunshot he received to the chest. Reports are that he ran to a nearby gas station, where he sought help before being transported to hospital.
Escalante questioned why the workers were targeted. He said their deliveries bring in very little cash. “It’s not something that I would say is targetable because these guys don’t make much selling these five gallons. I mean, we deliver at the cost of $3, and most that we’re taking is 60 gallons. So the amount of cash that these guys have is very minimal,” he said.
Escalante said the company was left shaken after the attack, as it is the first time the company has ever faced an incident like this.
No arrests have been made, and police investigations continue.
