Gas Prices Squeeze Patrols: Bennett Says Police Ops Must Be Reworked

Fuel prices aren’t just hurting drivers at the pump; they’re forcing government agencies to rethink how they do business. Home Affairs CEO Elton Bennett says the rising cost of fuel is squeezing everyone, from the media to security services to the wider public sector. And for law enforcement and other essential services that depend on vehicles to get the job done, Bennett says the answer isn’t simply “spend more”; it’s rework the plan. He says the ministry must now go back to the drawing board and redesign operations so patrols, deployments, and day-to-day logistics can stretch every gallon and still deliver results.

“The rising cost of fuel is impacting all of us. You, in the media, in the security service, across government, in the delivery of goods. Everyone is being impacted by the rising cost of fuel. So it’s something that would require us to go back to the drawing table to redesign our operations to ensure that we take into consideration the rising cost of fuel so that we can plan our operations better.”
