Police Officers Promoted, but are They Still Waiting to Get Paid?

Police officers’ pay and promotions are drawing questions tonight, and whether officers are getting what they’ve earned. Earlier today, we asked Home Affairs CEO Elton Bennett directly if there’s a delay in police officers receiving their annual increments, and whether those who’ve been promoted are being properly compensated. Bennett says increments are not an issue, but he admits there are outstanding payments, including transfer grants and emoluments tied to promotions, that are still working their way through the system. When pressed on whether those payments are being handled in a timely way, Bennett’s response was a firm yes.

“Increments, no. But I know there are outstanding transfer grants which constantly pass my desk. And I know that there are outstanding emoluments as it relates to promotion, again, which I have seen cross my desk.  But increment, I am not aware of.”

“And so, are those being dealt with in a timely manner, you think?

Elton Bennett

“Yes.”

Still, for officers waiting on money tied to new ranks or transfers, the answers may offer reassurance, but not immediate relief.
