Student Named UK High Commissioner for a Day

A Belizean student got a rare glimpse into the world of diplomacy this week after being selected for a unique leadership programme hosted by the British High Commission in Belize.

Chloé Martinez was named High Commissioner for a Day 2026, emerging from a competitive selection process that highlighted her vision, community engagement, and commitment to inclusive leadership.

As part of the initiative, Martinez shadowed Alistair White, attending official meetings and observing firsthand how diplomatic work is carried out behind the scenes.

The programme concluded with a Women’s Networking Event, which brought together representatives from government, business, civil society, and the diplomatic corps. The gathering focused on mentorship, leadership, and strengthening support networks among women across generations.

White said programmes like this are designed to equip young women with the confidence and experience needed to step into leadership and decision-making roles.

The British High Commission congratulated Martinez on her selection and thanked its partners for supporting the 2026 initiative, reaffirming its commitment to empowering the next generation of women leaders in Belize.
