Belize Completes WTO Trade Review in Geneva

Belize has completed its Fourth Trade Policy Review at the headquarters of the World Trade Organization in Switzerland.

The review looked at Belize’s trade policies and how the country is working to improve trade, attract investment, and grow the economy. WTO members praised Belize for its recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic and Hurricane Lisa, noting that the country has continued to grow despite those challenges.

Members also recognised Belize’s efforts to modernise its trade system through reforms aimed at making business easier and reducing costs. This includes work on a Trade and Investment Electronic Single Window, which is expected to speed up trade processes.

Belize was also commended for projects tied to the digital and blue economy, including the Blue Bond initiative and programmes that have trained more than one thousand women in digital skills.

During the discussions, WTO members encouraged Belize to improve some technical reporting requirements and continue strengthening its trade institutions. Belize acknowledged the delays and said it remains committed to improving transparency and meeting its international obligations.
