Who’s Next? Repeat Vandal Suspected After Latest Attack in Malacate
There’s growing unease in Independence Village tonight after vandals struck again in the Malacate area, leaving behind a trail of damage and a lot of unanswered questions. Several vehicles were targeted, their windows smashed; but strangely, nothing was taken. That’s fueling concern that this may be more than random mischief. Village leaders believe it could be connected to an earlier incident, pointing to a possible repeat offender. Police are now on the case, but for residents, the sense of security is already shaken.
On the Phone: Emilio Zabaneh, Councilor, Independence Village
“I believe it is vandalism. I don’t believe it is theft. I know that a month ago we had endured a similar situation with a vehicle in town where somebody threw a projectile in a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. I would venture to say that it is the same indeed that has a fetish for breaking car glasses. I think he knows who to target and probably has a chip on his shoulders and some sort of jealousy. I was not in town, but from what I saw he just broke the glasses. He did not steal anything. The police are investigating. The minute the village council became aware of the video we immediately alerted ASP Sherwin Wade, and he jumped on it immediately. We reached out to Norwegian Cruise Line because the have a camera spotting in the area. I know it is left in the hands of the police and they are investigating. I know there was a suspect that was identified from the previous incident. I know that he still is a suspect, because he frequents the Malacate area.”
The vehicles reportedly belong to employees of a company who parked their vehicles at Malacate to attend a Mother’s Day event on a nearby island.
