Super Nationals Set to Redefine Youth Sports in Belize
For years, Belize’s young athletes have dreamed of competing on a bigger stage, and now it’s happening. The National Sports Council is launching Super Nationals, a new nationwide showdown bringing top student athletes together in football, basketball, volleyball, and athletics. Sports Coordinator Kaya Cattouse says the goal is clear: raise competition, open doors, and create real pathways to scholarships and international opportunities.

“So currently we have our national championship tournament for primary schools where we see best primary school teams representing their district at the national tournament. But what we haven’t seen at primary school is a very high level of competition due to the limited talent pool within the schools. So now taking the best student athletes from all these schools and putting them into one team to represent the district will definitely be seeing a high level of competition and creating a talent pool where high schools can be selecting potential scholarship students to attend their school. And it will be the same thing for high schools where the National Sports Council plans to eventually bring in scouts for this one-week tournament that will be held annually to seek potential talent from within our country to take to college internationally. I need to emphasize that this is about creating opportunities for the young athletes in the country of Belize and building a stronger future in sports in the country with collaboration from the National Council and the federation, the sporting federations.”
The Primary Schools Super Nationals take place June 22nd and 23rd, the same week classes end. High school competition follows from June 29th to July 3rd, with a full week of games. Organizers will kick things off with an opening ceremony at the Civic Center on Monday night, introducing student athletes to fans before the action begins.
