Thieves Raid Infant Two Students’ Piggy Banks

Children at Ladyville Evangelical Primary School returned to class this morning to find their handmade piggy banks smashed open and months of savings gone after burglars broke into their classrooms over the weekend.

Several classrooms were ransacked, and dozens of piggy banks made by infant two students were broken apart and emptied.

“The children had piggy banks as part of the financial literacy,” Principal Elia Chi told News 5. “From January, they have been saving their coins and at the end of the school year, which is June, they were going to open the piggy banks and find out the amount and do something out of it.”

The savings project was meant to teach patience, discipline and responsibility. Instead, teachers were forced to explain to six and seven-year-olds that their money was gone.

Police are searching for the thieves. Community members have already stepped in to replace the piggy banks and help the children start over.
