Police Say Fatal Corozal Shooting May Be Drug-Related
A 36‑year‑old DJ was killed, and another man was hospitalised after a drive‑by‑style shooting in Corozal Town on Tuesday night.
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer, confirmed that the incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, when officers responded to reports of gunfire on Flamboyant Street.
At the scene, police found Roger Escalante unresponsive with gunshot wounds. Twenty‑five‑year‑old Ezer Alcoser was also injured and later listed in stable condition.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Escalante and another man had arrived at a residence on Flamboyant Street when an SUV approached. A gunman exited the vehicle and fired several shots, fatally wounding Escalante and injuring Alcoser.
Smith disclosed that Escalante was a person of interest in an ongoing drug investigation at the time of his death. While police have not confirmed whether both men were the intended targets, investigators believe the motive behind the attack is drug‑related.
“We are suspecting that may be the motive in this incident,” Smith stated.
No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
