Justice Served: Elmer Nah Found Guilty

Nearly three and a half years after a lone gunman shattered the Ramnarace family’s New Year’s Eve celebration in Belmopan, justice has arrived. Justice Nigel Pilgrim today delivered his verdict in the high-profile triple murder trial of former Police Corporal Elmer Nah. He was found guilty of three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, stemming from the December 31, 2022 attack on the Ramnarace family at their Belmopan home.

Brothers David and Jon Ramnarace were killed at the scene. Jon’s wife, Vivian Belisle Ramnarace, who initially survived the shooting, passed away just over two weeks later. A fourth victim, Yemi Alberto, survived.

Central to the ruling was the court’s assessment of Vivian Belisle Ramnarace’s testimony. Despite being fatally wounded, Vivian had given a statement before her death, and the court found her to be an honest and reliable witness. Justice Pilgrim noted that it was “remarkable” how video evidence corroborated her account in detail.

The court also rejected Nah’s account of his whereabouts at the time of the shooting, with Justice Pilgrim ruling that the defendant had told a deliberate lie about where he was when the killings took place. That finding proved pivotal to the guilty verdicts.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for June 18, 2026, in the afternoon.
